We are living in a time where technology has never been as widespread or advancing as quickly as it is right now. Chances are you probably know more people (adults at least) who have a smartphone than those who don’t. That wouldn’t be the case just ten years ago (the first iPhone was launched in 2007 for reference), but in the technology world 10 years is an eternity, and the Triple Revolution does a great job of explaining what is going on. For a little background the term “Triple Revolution” is one we discussed in my social informatics course in college (it wasn’t as boring as it sounds, I promise):
-
Mobile technology has allowed users to access and share information wherever they may be.
-
The Internet has allowed us to both gather and share information on a scale unimaginable by those in the past.
-
Social networks have allowed individuals to reach beyond tight groups of associate
So we’ve got social networks, the Internet, and mobile technology. If you’re reading this blog you probably have access to all three and use them all on a regular basis, if not daily. Not only has the Triple Revolution changed consumers, it’s changed how people chase their dreams with hopes of being, creating, or selling…
THE NEXT BIG THING
Unfortunately, I don’t have the secret formula to creating the next big thing, if I did I wouldn’t be writing this blog. However, I do know two of the best tools you can use to capitalize on the Triple Revolution. I hope you’re already intrigued because that’s all the buildup I can come up with. Website and databases! Please refrain from running around your house or the public area you are in, I know they’re exciting but please, you’re embarrassing yourself. Websites and databases are incredibly effective at taking advantage of these massive social and technological changes. Looking at Pacific Crest Web & Data specifically, there are a lot of things we can do to help you as a small business owner, nonprofit member, or new entrepreneur reach your goals using the power of technology.
Websites
Most of this is old news but it bears repeating: if you don’t take care of your website, customers won’t expect you to take care of them either. It may sound harsh, but it’s the truth. Your websites act as your online storefront that’s operating 24/7 365 days a year. It needs to be polished and professional, just like your brick and mortar location (if you have one). In today’s world of the Triple Revolution, customers will likely be seeing your business for the first time online. If you need a new site or advice about your existing site, you know who to talk to for a free consultation.
Databases
Databases are without a doubt the most misunderstood aspect of our business, and that’s our fault, so allow me to explain their importance. You probably interact with numerous databases throughout your day without even realizing it. The contacts list on your phone? That’s a database. Watched Netflix lately? That’s a database. Use cloud storage to backup your data such as iCloud, Google Drive, of Dropbox? You guessed it, more databases. Databases are everywhere and serve increasingly important functions in our personal and business lives. Lucky for you, databases are our specialty here at Pacific Crest Web & Data. So whether you need a database to track the inventory of your “mom and pop” shop business or a multi-user cloud-based database to help you identify what customers purchase which products based on several fluctuating variables, we can help. It’s time to take advantage of technology to reach your personal and business goals. If you’re ready to start, look through our site and contact us with any questions or ideas you may have!
